NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH:

Neighborhood Watch is a crime-prevention program that brings community members together and teaches them how to make their neighborhoods safer by using basic crime prevention techniques and identifying and reporting suspicious activity.

WHAT IS A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH STREET LEADER?

As mentioned, each Neighborhood has its own coordinator.  They are always looking for people to help them out with tasks like:

  • Be the vigilant “Eyes and Ears” of your specific neighborhood or street
  • Make it a point to know your neighbors – check on them!
  • Be willing to receive any updated crime information and pass that on to your neighbors / friends
  • Be willing to keep an eye on a vacationing neighbor’s home in support of the C.O.P.s program
  • Reminder!!  You do NOT have any police/sheriff authority to act on any crimes that occur anywhere

WHAT DOES A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH DO?

Neighborhood Watch tracks the calls for service and crime in Tellico Village. When you subscribe to the Tell-E-Gram you will receive crime alerts, safety bulletins, and information on upcoming Neighborhood Watch events.

The ultimate goal of the Tellico Village Neighborhood Watch program is to get everyone involved in looking out for one another and to educate people about reporting suspicious activity and crimes if they happen in your area.

Keeping crime out of Tellico Village is the priority.

WHAT DO I DO IF I WITNES A CRIME OR SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY?

  • If you are witnessing a crime, immediately call 911.  Be a good witness!
  • Try to take photos or video to assist in recollection of details when you are going to explain it to responding law enforcement.
  • If you aren’t sure and don’t know if it warrants calling 911, take down the same information and call the non-emergency number for the Sheriff’s Department.  The non-emergency number is posted on every Neighborhood Watch sign in Tellico Village.
    • Loudon (865) 458-9081
    • Monroe (423) 422-HELP (4357)
    • Notify Neighborhood Watch so that we can get the word out and assist law enforcement making everyone aware of what happened.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH INFORMATION?

Easy! Make sure you sign up for the Tell-E-Gram at Tell-E-Gram signup (mailchi.mp)

If you want to be more involved as a Neighborhood Watch Street Leader for your area or street, email your information to [email protected]

Give your name, address and what neighborhood you live in. Following that, you should receive a welcome message from your Neighborhood Watch Coordinator.

Each Neighborhood (Chatuga, Chota, Coyatee, Kahite, Mialaquo, Tanasi, Tommotely and Toqua) has its own coordinator.

Let your coordinator know how involved you would like to be. They are always looking for Street Leaders for their areas.

WE ARE NOT THE C.O.P.s (Citizen's Observer Patrol) PROGAM

The C.O.P.s program is run out of the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office and available only to residents of the Main Village. They provide a visual deterrent to the Village when they drive around in marked Sheriff cars. They can assist Sheriff Deputies who are responding to crimes in Tellico Village however, they do not arrest anyone.

A vacation “away” form can be filled out for them to drive by (when available) your home if you are out of town. You can find the link to the form on their website:

Available now in Kahite is a unique vacation/away program where you can fill out a form and your Neighborhood Watch Coordinator tracks it and supplies the information to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office for when they do their drive bys throughout the community on a regular basis.  Contact the Kahite Neighborhood Watch Coordinator at [email protected] for the form and more information.
