Geneology Research Group

Who we Are?

This group is open to all. We are interested in learning genealogical sources, methodology, technology, and solutions. We do not collect dues but may occasionally ask for donations to pay for photocopies or to share the administrative expenses. We encourage everyone to participate in presentations, secure speakers, or plan field and research trips for the group.

Tellico Village Genealogy Research Group was founded in 2021. We originally met at the Public Library of Tellico Village, but now have a regular meeting time at the Chota Rec Center.  We have had presentations on:

  • DNA for genealogy
  • Civil War ancestry
  • using Facebook for collaborating with relatives
  • genealogical research organization
  • newspaper research
  • educational opportunities in genealogy
  • online census
  • using FamilySearch.org
  • Salt Lake City research
  • state and local censuses
  • court records
  • cemetery records.

We have invited guest speakers. In addition to regular monthly meetings, we have taken one field trip to the East Tennessee History Center: Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection in downtown Knoxville.

Our Meetings

We meet in Tellico Village on the first Thursday of every month, at 2:00 P.M. at the Chota Recreation Center, Room D, 145 Awohili Drive, Loudon, TN, 37774.
