Muddy Boots Hike - ABRAMS FALLS
Muddy Boots Hike – ABRAMS FALLS Hike Description: The round trip distance is 5 miles. You will ascend 340ft on the way out and descend 340 feet on the way back for an average elevation change of about 136 feet per mile. Most of the Abrams Falls trail follows the creek or is at least within earshot of the creek. The trail will travel through pine and oak forests along ridges and spruce and hemlock along the creek. Abrams Falls is only 20 feet high, but that is more than made up for by the large volume of water cascading over the falls. The falls are part of Abrams Creek which is the longest stream entirely within the boundaries of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The creek and falls are named for "Oskuah", a Cherokee chief whose village was located downstream from the falls and who later adopted the name "Abram". Bring a lunch to enjoy at the end of the hike, if you wish. Hikers can check an item off of their bucket list by driving the Cades Cove Loop after the hike.
