Introduction to Torch Enameling

By Estefania Nance, Nance Craftworks, Member of the Foothills Craft Guild

What is enameling?  Enameling is the art of fusing glass to metal, either with a torch or in a kiln.  It is a complex and rich art form that comprises multiple techniques and methods.  This class teaches safety practices and basic techniques of enameling.  The class allows for various levels of interest and sophistication.  At a basic level, a person can choose a pre-made metal and simply add enamels and fire it using a small propane torch. We will be also using a kiln.  Others can design and prepare their own metal by cutting a piece of copper using professional cutters, sanding it using a flex shaft, doming it using a dapping block, applying enamels, and firing the piece.  No artistic skill is necessary, just a willingness to try and make something new and pretty. Unlimited pieces within the time available.
This is a 4 hours class.  This introductory class serves as a pre-requisite to other classes.
