Muddy Boots Hike Cumberland Mountain State Park:  Pioneer Trail Loop

Hike Description:  Easy hike along Byrd Lake and Byrd Creek in forest area of Cumberland Mountain State Park.  Suspension Bridge and a few small stream crossings on stepping stones.  Restrooms at park office. 

Length of Hike:  4.7 miles

Rating:  Easy

Departure:  8:00 a.m. Chota Center parking lot, across from the gas station

Location/Distance/Drive Time:  Near Crossville, approximately 63 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes.  Central Time zone at destination.

Hike Leaders:  Jan and Dennis Dougherty

Directions:  Tellico Parkway to 321 through Lenoir City.  Turn right to merge onto I-75N.  Merge onto I-40W in two miles.  Follow I-40W 38 miles to exit 329 toward US-70/Crab Orchard.  Turn right onto Market Street.  Turn left onto US-70W.  Turn left onto Cox Valley Road.  Turn right onto TN-68N.  Turn left onto US-127S.  Turn right onto TN-419N. Take a slight right onto Pigeon Ridge Road.  Turn left onto Play Drive.  Turn left onto Cabin Drive.  Turn left and then right to the trailhead parking on the left.  

Hiking boots and poles recommended.  

Please bring water and snacks. 

Please leave your pets at home. 

Carpooling at your discretion.
