Distance:  5 miles total (Note:  there will be an option for those desiring to shorten to 4.0 miles)

Hike Leader(s):  Mary Ann Pearson and Paula Doherty

Hike Description:  We will be combining three trails for this hike.  This first trail, The Upland Loop (2.0 miles) includes a moderate climb in open pasture/meadow ground, to the top of a ridge with beautiful views of the French Broad River Basin.  We will then proceed onto the Island Loop which includes crossing the newly constructed pedestrian bridge onto the island where we will walk the Island Loop (1.6 miles), a level scenic walk along the river that potentially features many species of birds.  We will then return to the park center via the blacktop trail before proceeding onto the Hickory Ridge (0.9 miles).  This woodland trail includes a moderate climb of 250 ft. to another scenic overlook before looping back to the original starting area.  This trail has many roots and some rocks and is somewhat more difficult, although still easy to moderate overall.  For those who would like to shorten their hike, or avoid the second hill climb, it is easy to return to your vehicle before beginning this segment.  The total trip distance, including connector trails, is 5 miles.

The park is one of Tennessee's newest, encompassing 416 acres along the French Broad River in Knox County.  This peninsula features more than eight miles of natural trails, rolling hills, and views of the Smoky Mountains.  Drive time to the park is approximately one hour.  Parking is ample and readily available.

HIKING BOOTS AND HIKING STICKS ARE RECOMMENDED.

Please leave your pets at home.

Bring ample water and train snack or lunch if desired.

Carpooling is at your own discretion.
